CUSO Financial Services, LP Data Breach Investigation

data breach investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the CUSO Financial Services, LP (“CFS”) data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 25,698 individuals and their personal information.

On October 20, 2023, CFS learned that Barracuda Networks (an email application) had a vulnerability that allowed an unauthorized user to access its historical emails and attachments. A subsequent investigation discovered that information from July 5, 2022 related to CFS may have been impacted. Despite the investigation, CFS is unsure as to what emails and attachments were viewed and/or acquired by the cybercriminals(s). However, the compromised information may include names, driver’s license or state identification numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information, health insurance information, and financial account information.

CUSO Financial Services, LP recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
