On May 9, 2023, Norton Healthcare became aware of a network disruption that occurred on or about May 7, 2023, through May 9, 2023, by which unauthorized access to its data was obtained. Patient information was impacted. This information potentially includes: name, contact information, Social Security Number, date of birth, health information, insurance information, and medical identification numbers. In some instances, the data may also have included driver’s license numbers or other government ID numbers, financial account numbers, and digital signatures.
Norton Healthcare initially informed individuals of this breach on December 8, 2023, through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
