Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the New York based medical transporter Empress Ambulance Service LLC (“Empress”) which recently posted a notice of an unauthorized security breach. According to a notice on Empress’s website, a hacker or group of hackers gained access to the system on May 26. Cybercriminals may have seized names, addresses, Social Security Numbers, or other protected health information.
Although Empress discovered the breach on or around July 14, it reported the result on September 9th. As a result, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity related to their personal and health information: unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges, requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s name without their consent, fake medical procedures ordered, or disrupted use of the institution’s website.
