Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Central Pennsylvania-based Family Practice Center for failing to safeguard sensitive patient information in a data breach discovered on October 11, 2021. Through its investigation, Family Practice Center discovered that an unauthorized party obtained data that was kept on the practices group’s servers, including patient names, Social Security numbers, addresses, medical insurance information, as well as health and treatment information. Family Practice Center began mailing letters to impacted patients on July 7, 2022.
While Family Practice Center now claims to have deployed additional monitoring tools, the hacker(s) may have already obtained and sold the compromised patient information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
