Topical Steroid Addiction and Withdrawal Investigation

UPDATE (9/5/2019): This investigation is closed and we are not pursuing any action on this matter.

Topical Steroid Addiction and Topical Steroid Withdrawal Investigation

Topical steroids are typically prescribed by doctors to treat skin inflammation from diseases like atopic dermatitis (eczema) and other diseases involving the inflammation of the skin. If used for too long, however, the body becomes dependent or addicted to topical steroids’ ability to manage skin inflammation. Cessation of topical steroids when the skin has become addicted can lead to a horrifically painful and disfiguring process called topical steroid withdrawal that can last for years and can permanently damage the skin as well as the body’s adrenal system.

The Mario Badescu Topical Steroid Withdrawal Litigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP attorney Esfand Nafisi spearheaded a topical steroid withdrawal lawsuit on behalf of dozens of people injured by Control Cream and Healing Cream, two “botanical” products that contained hydrocortisone and triamcinolone acetonide (a prescription steroid). The lawsuit alleged that Mario Badescu caused its customers to become addicted to topical steroids and to suffer from topical steroid withdrawal. That lawsuit settled in 2017.

Have you suffered from Topical Steroid Withdrawal from Mario Badescu’s Products or another topical steroid?

If you have experienced topical steroid withdrawal from an over-the-counter product containing topical steroids (such as Mario Badescu’s Control Cream or Healing Cream) or from a prescription topical steroid, our attorneys want to speak with you. Topical steroids under investigation include, but are not limited to, Dermasmoothe, clobetasol, desonide, triamcinolone acetonide, and hydrocortisone. We are also investigating the use of occlusive topical steroid wraps in children, whereby a plastic dressing is placed over steroid cream, resulting in a several-fold increase in steroid absorption.
